Accounts of walking tours are worth reading when they are well-written and the author has a perspective and personality worth sharing. It has remarkably little to do with the challenge of the trek itself: Colin Fletcher could make any stroll fascinating. Hanuse was 53 when she walked across the country (her husband accompanied her with a well-equipped RV). Her book is cluttered with diversions of her dog's antics along the way. Outside of admiring her pluck, there is little here for the reader. Meegan, a young Englishman, walked 19,000 miles from the tip of South America to the top of Alaska. Yet that isn't what makes his a better book. Instead it is Meegan's engaging style, his lack of braggadocio, and his amazing capacity to shrug off unpleasantness that makes his book enjoyable to read. It is of little consequence that this is the longest recorded journey. His trip took seven years, with several interruptions, during which he managed to start a family. Inspiring Journey

I read this book about ten years ago and still have vivid scenes in my head of Mr.Meegan's couragous undertaking. I was so inspired by his determination and daring I set off on my own adventure. At the age of 62 I walked across England alone. It wasn't as dangerous as Mr. Meegan's oddyssey, but it was a milestone in my life. Read Longest Walk and it will inspire you to more adventurous undertakings or just give you delightful hours of armchair travel as you walk in his worn-out shoes.

A Late Review, but Better Late than Never

I really enjoyed this book. I can relate with the author about many of the personal experiences that he came across in his long journey. George Meegan must be a very deep person in his method of handling the situations that he encountered. On his trip of 7 years, he managed to get married,and father children without totally breaking his mileage countings, however, this is not the main plot of the book. He brought out the warmth of these little known and studied peoples of Latin America and showed the world that these people are really generous and kind, other than what the media makes them out to be. I can relate with one particular experience he had in Mexico that struck me deeply. Anyway, I recommend this book to anyone that may enjoy an adventure of the human spirit. It makes for good reading.

VERY Good Book

'The Longest Walk' is an amazing story about the author, George Meegan, who begins walking from the tip of South America, at Ushuaia, and ends up at Pruhoe Bay, at the North Pole. Journeying with him is also his Japanese wife, Yoshiko, and his two children who the have along the way, there names translated meaning: Don't Stop, and Keep Walking. I thoroughly enjoyed this book for many reasons. Meegan gives excellent descriptions of the people and places he meets, and gives insight that is not seen on the surface. I would reccommend this book for anyone who has dreams they want to come true, and also for those who like to read about travel. A great read, no matter how hard it is to find!

The History of Evil and Why it is Important to Understand

I purchased this book after I had read and subsequently reviewed on Amazon Zen Garcia's latest work, "Sons of God." I ingested "Sons of God," and believed that work opened up for me many paths of thinking and truth not yet explored. I invite you to read my review of "Sons of God" here on Amazon.

After finishing "Sons of God," I wanted more of Zen Garcia's excellent research and insightful commentary on ancient, esoteric, as well as Biblical writings, and so I bought this work "Lucifer Father of Cain." I was not disappointed! This work is a must read prequel to "Sons of God." It lays down foundational truths that must be grasped before moving on to further truths. The following are some of the reasons why I unequivocally recommend this book for any sincere seeker of deeper wisdom and truth, both historical truth and prophetic future truth. Allow me to explain.

1. The book is well organized into a meaningful and consecutive timeline of chapters. It starts with a huge learning lesson on "pre-history," then slowly and methodically builds the case for the reason of evil in this world, specifically the two seed-lines; one of Lucifer and the other of Seth. All the while, Zen hammers away any doubt with well-researched and well-interpreted ancient texts that no one else has brought together in such a manner.

2. Zen takes his readers from the pre-historical fall of Lucifer and angelic rebellion through the giant Nephilim cannibals, and to the current age of the Illuminati and hybrid serpent seed of wickedness controlling our very planet. Zen's special gift of understanding and relating to his readers the ancient hidden and esoteric texts brings the reader to the cold pale truth regarding the origins of evil and why it is always with us.

3. However, Zen Garcia does not just present the origin of evil and leave the reader stranded without hope; he always consistently points the reader to the majesty and sovereignty of the Creator God, the true and only real Creator God. There is a way out from the coming destruction of wickedness brought on by the serpent seed, and Zen does not hesitate to firmly declare the way of salvation from this impending doom.

4. I found this book prophetic. Zen spends a great deal of effort laying the foundation for historical evil, and yet, he devotes time to explaining how all of this information will affect the human race in the prophetic future when the end of evil draws near. And so, this work covers all of history to the future.

The title, "Lucifer Father of Cain," is too narrow. That topic, which has raised the eyebrows and ruffled the feathers of the sanctimonious religious, the Biblically ignorant, the uniformed, and sometimes just the plain old nasty spirit of wickedness in some people, is not what this book is about in its entirety. In fact, the topic of Lucifer "seeding" Cain from Eve is just one topic in the larger context of Luciferian evil in this age.

The title, in my opinion, would have been better suited as something to the tune of, "The Origins of Evil Past Present and Future." I can always tell when a negative reviewer has not really read the book. They will only focus on the topic of Lucifer being the father of Cain and reject the idea because of the use of extra-Biblical sources to arrive at that conclusion. If the negative reviewer had actually read the book in its entirety, they would have seen that there is much more to this extensive work on evil then its narrow title assumes.

Please do not allow narrow minded thinking to prevent you from discovering fantastic truths and concepts that are guaranteed to get your spiritual juices flowing. If it leads to a deeper and greater fellowship with the Creator God, then it cannot be bad.

Must Read Now-While You Still Can

This book is wonderfully researched, woven then articulated in a way that humanity needs so desperately today. It is controversial to say the least. However, think about all those people that claim to have an open mind and are willing to entertain a different point of view. Go ahead and read it before passing judgment on it's contents if you dare.

I have read all of Zens books and have been blessed by his insight and understanding of Gods Word. All of the books are beautiful and written in an easy to follow and understand way. The reference material that he uses is amazing and the amount of time and effort he has put into his research is truly humbling. God blesses whom He will to have insight to things that most of us cannot open our eyes to in understanding. He has blessed Zen with this gift so that we may benefit. I would recommend that anyone with questions regarding the spiritual things of God read Zens books.

Indecipherable

I picked this up as someone who was read a fair share of continental philosophy and a large share of Bruno Latour's work and was hoping for something along those lines. Sadly I seem to have been mistaken, as this book is incredibly dense, and makes reference to so much scientific jargon that I couldn't follow any philosophical points the author was trying to make.

Classic. Essential. Practical.

There are a lot of great books on the more artistic and unquantifiable aspects of motion picture editing (for example, Michael Ondaatje's Conversations with Walter Murch), but this is one of the few books to lay out the basics. Everyone who wants to edit motion pictures, whether it's home videos using iMovie or feature films using Avid or even (especially) actually cutting film should know what this book has to teach. It's really the only book for the novice editor worth reading. Just buy it.

Clear and authoritative guide to the principles and practices of film editing

This is one of the classic texts on the principles and practices of modern film editing. While it was written nearly thirty years ago and refers occasionally to the techniques of linear editing on actual film, its summary of the rules of good editing remains as relevant today as ever, even for filmmakers who will only ever edit video on their computers. Editing is where the film is brought to life and Dmytryk outlines in a very clear and engaging way the basic considerations that allow that to take place. The author was not only a major filmmaker but a master teacher, and it shows in both the precision and clarity of his explanations.

What makes the guide as fresh today as when it appeared is that it is primarily not about technical considerations but about how an editor has to think in order to construct seamless and engaging scenes that are true to the overall story of a film. At the same time this thinking is given a practical application. The focus is on why rather than how, but it goes much further in explaining the basics of what to do when editing and how to put together a scene than many other books out there.

Dmytryk makes a distinction between a cutter and an editor, and cutting is merely competence with the equipment of film editing, whether it is a moviola or Final Cut Pro. Editing is always thinking, and is as creative in its approach to the film as shot as directing is creative in its approach to the film as written. Subtle variations in editing can change completely the tone or mood of a film. Dmytryk illustrates his points with several examples from major films he directed or edited (e.g. The Caine Mutiny, Murder, My Sweet and many more). Dmytryk is a master of his craft and is generous in his description of what it takes to pursue this mastery. This little book is an indispensible part of any filmmaker or film lover's library.

Working in film and video for over 15 years, this was the first book I read when starting my career. I have bought several copies over the years for new shooters and editors. It really is that good.

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned veteran, this is a MUST READ. This short book is packed with solid information that should be required reading in any film school. Look, there are a few basic rules that all editors have been following since the silent film era. You've got to know the fundamentals.

About the Author
Anthony Powell (1905-2000) was born in London and educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford. He worked for a London publisher from 1927 to 1935 and as a film scriptwriter from 1935 to 1936. He also served as a liaison officer for the Intelligence Corps during World War II. The literary editor of Punch from 1952 to 1958, Powell also wrote reviews and literary columns for many newspapers and periodicals. He became an Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters in 1997 and was named a Commander of the British Empire in 1956 and, after refusing a knighthood in 1973, a Companion of Honor in 1988. His published works include Afternoon Men (1931), From a View to a Death (1933), What's Become of Waring (1939), and his twelve-volume masterpiece A Dance to the Music of Time, the latter available from the University of Chicago Press.

A Ball

The life reflections of a highly literate Englishman. Famous names are scattered throughout the text, arising naturally from the various circles Anthony Powell found himself within over his long and productive life.

Anyone with an interest in the book trade and art of writing, or in English writers of the past century, should certainly be urged to read these memoirs.

I especially liked Mr. Powell's close of life lessons, advice drawn from a small incident involving Michaelangelo.

Great Read But Better Yet ...

... is to read the four volumes of Powell's memoirs of which this is an abridgement.

Powell is dismissed as a minor talent and worse (a snob, probably the most disparaging epithet), but who writing today is his equal? He's not as great a stylist as Waugh and his yarns aren't as gripping as Graham Greene (to mention two of his major contemporaries), but Ian McEwan, Martin Amis, and D.J. Taylor wish they could write as well as Powell did.

His memoirs are as readable as DANCE and the early novels, and for those who can't get enough, I highly recommend his three volume "Journals".

This memoir, mercifully abridged, is an excellent follow-up to Powell's twelve-volume novel with the collective title of A Dance To The Music Of Time. Besides illuminating the process of how writers transform their experiences, friends, and acquaintances into the stuff of fiction, it is very interesting to be introduced in detail to the bold-faced name writers and intellectuals, the movers, shakers, and aristocrats among whom he moved. He is a writer of great with and charm, as evident here in his memoir as in his fiction.
